Umrah

Umrah in five steps

The lesser pilgrimage can be made at any time of the year, and pilgrims on Hajj al-Tamattu‘ perform it before Hajj. Click a step.

Step 1 of 5

Ihram

At the miqat: bathe, wear the ihram, make the intention for Umrah and begin the talbiyah.

And proclaim to the people the ḥajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass -
Al-Hajj 22:27 · Saheeh International
(Labbaykal-lahumma labbayk, labbayka la shareeka laka labbayk, innal-hamda wanniAAmata laka walmulk, la shareeka lak.)
(Here I am O Allah, (in response to Your call), here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Verily all praise, grace and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.)

9 Dhu al-Hijjah

The heart of Hajj. After the sun passes its zenith, pilgrims stand in dua and remembrance until sunset. Dhuhr and Asr are prayed together. Many who are not on Hajj fast this day at home.

There is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord [during ḥajj]. But when you depart from ʿArafāt, remember Allāh at al-Mashʿar al-Ḥarām. And remember Him, as He has guided you, for indeed, you were before that among those astray.
Al-Baqara 2:198 · Saheeh International
(The best of supplications is the supplication on the day of AAarafah and the best which I and the Prophets before me have said (is): (La ilaha illal-lahu wahdahu la shareeka lah, lahul-mulku walahul-hamd, wahuwa AAala kulli shayin qadeer.))
(The best of supplications is the supplication on the day of AAarafah and the best which I and the Prophets before me have said (is): (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all praise and sovereignty and He is over all things omnipotent.))
Hisn al-Muslim · chapter 119
This guide follows the common order taught to pilgrims. Your Hajj group and its scholar guide the details of your own type of Hajj, and any rulings for special cases (illness, women, elderly pilgrims).
